Shotokan karate founded by Gichin Funakoshi is an evolving martial art, developed further by his successor Masatoshi Nakayama Shihan, the late JKA Chief Instructor.
Two of Nakayama Shihan’s gifted students, Asai Shihan and Kato Shihan were not content to leave Shotokan untouched by progress and they both developed new kata.
IJKA UK teaches Kato-Ryu Kata and Asai-Ryu Kata alongside the traditional Shotokan kata.
